Three people were killed and 12 injured in a mass shooting in southern Alabama

Three people were killed and 12 others injured in a shooting at a party Saturday evening in southern Alabama.

Gunfire erupted near Stockton around 10 p.m., local CBS affiliate WKRG reported. The town of about 550 residents is about 20 miles north of Mobile.

About 1,000 people had gathered in the area for a party, police told local Fox affiliate WALA. Most of the victims and participants were “younger people,” Baldwin County investigator Andre Reid told the outlet. The victims have not been publicly identified.

A suspect has been identified but not arrested, Reid told WALA. Police believe there was at least one other shooter. According to WALA, investigators said several people shot at each other during the incident.

Some of the wounded were taken to North Baldwin Infirmary, seven miles south in the town of Bay Minette, WALA reported. Physical altercations broke out in the hospital while the victims were being treated.

There have already been 153 mass shootings in the U.S. in 2024, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which classifies any shooting with four or more victims as a mass shooting.

The 152nd mass shooting occurred early Saturday morning in Louisville, Kentucky, leaving two people dead and two others injured at a club. In this case, too, no suspects were arrested or publicly identified.
