Officials discover over 200 cats in Yuba County home, 46 of them dead

(FOX40.COM) – The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Services recently discovered over 200 cats living at a home in Plumas Lake.

On Tuesday, YCSO said they responded to the 1300 block of Sundance Drive in Plumas Lake for “numerous complaints.” Officials did not provide any information about what the complaints related to. However, when they arrived, they found hundreds of cats scattered throughout the house.


According to YCSO, most of the cats were afraid of people and ran away. Officers said the owner claimed to be the owner of a wildlife rescue and it was “unclear if she went out.”

Officials said it would take several days to remove the cats from the home. As of Thursday, 160 cats were counted alive and 46 more were found dead. YCSO said the incident is under investigation and “potential charges may be filed.” The district is also accepting donations for the large-scale cleanup and rescue operation.
