“Extremely sexually deviant” woman raped while asleep or unconscious

A man described as “extremely sexually deviant” raped a woman for more than two years before she spoke out against her attacker. Michael Wynter, 34, of Crayshaw Road, Lambeth, was found guilty of raping a woman at the Old Bailey on April 30 at an address in north London.

Wynter was arrested in December 2021 and during the police investigation, officers thoroughly examined both the victim and Wynter’s electronic devices. They also spoke to a witness in whom the woman had confided and took into evidence a detailed formal statement from the victim.

Wynter has been on the sex offenders’ register since 2021 because he was convicted of sexually assaulting a child between 2002 and 2003, the Metropolitan Police said.

Detective Constable Adam Conibeere, who led the investigation, said: “Wynter is an extreme sexual predator who raped a woman while she was asleep or unconscious. I would like to commend the victim-survivor who bravely navigated the entire investigation and trial and myself.” I can only hope that this outcome will provide her with some comfort and the closure she deserves as she continues tries to move on with her life.

“She showed incredible strength and heroism when, after much consideration, she came forward to report the matter because she did not want anyone else to suffer at Wynter’s hands. Tackling violence against women and girls is a top priority for the Met.

“We will continue to do everything we can to remove predatory offenders from the streets of London, while supporting complainants and helping them at every stage.”

Wynter was sentenced to seven years in prison at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, April 30. He will also remain on the sex offenders register for life.
