Credit card skimming device found at checkout counter at Cromwell Walmart: Police – NBC Connecticut

Cromwell police are investigating after a credit card reader was discovered at a self-checkout lane at Walmart.

The store contacted police on July 17 and told them that a skimmer had been attached to a credit card reader on June 29, police said.

Authorities said the suspects are responsible for installing credit card readers at cash registers across California. It’s not clear which other cities and towns they suspect might be targeted.

Police ask anyone with information to call 860-635-2256.

Cromwell is one of several communities investigating after skimmers were found.

Naugatuck police said a skimmer was installed at a Walmart self-checkout lane around 6:30 p.m. on July 17.

They said the devices stored data such as credit card numbers and PIN codes and that the information was used to create counterfeit cards.

Naugatuck Police urge anyone who believes they have been a victim to contact their bank or credit card company’s fraud department and report the case to their local police department.

Big Y also stated that on June 29, they discovered that someone had installed a skimming device on a single terminal in their Naugatuck and Plainville stores.
