Global outage impacts air traffic at Buffalo airport

Buffalo area travelers are experiencing cancellations and delays following the global outage.

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — The impact of the global technology outage is still being felt at Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Airline kiosks faced long lines after the outage impacted check-in and reservation services.

The biggest impact of the global outage occurred this morning, when travelers in the Buffalo area experienced a handful of delays and cancellations due to ground stops put in place by American, Delta and United.

Although ground restrictions have since been lifted and most flights at the airport are taking off as scheduled, many passengers are still waiting for flights that have been delayed by several hours.

“We arrived at the airport at 11am for a 12:30pm flight. Unfortunately, due to a software glitch, the flight was cancelled and I am now on a 6:48am flight with a stopover in Charlotte,” said Lana Anker.

While everything is operating at the Buffalo airport, the NFTA still advises travelers to save time and check flight status online before heading to the airport.

As this shortage continues to impact destinations nationally and globally.
