Zeya: US cut off all aid to Georgia due to the passage of the Foreign Influence Act

Following the indefinite postponement of the Noble Partner 2024 exercises, the United States has frozen aid to Georgia. This was announced by Uzra Zeya, US Assistant Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, who visited the republic on July 12.

The reason for this decision was the adoption of the ‘Foreign Agents Law’ in Georgia. As a result of this law, the United States froze aid to Georgia, and integration into the European Union will not take place either,” Zeya explained, without elaborating on what kind of aid was involved.

“The concerns related to Georgia’s anti-democratic development are global, and we call on the Georgian government to listen to them,” Zeya said in an interview with the Civil Georgia portal. According to him, US and EU representatives “have often expressed their concerns directly to the government, both publicly and privately.”

“I think we can only conclude that Georgia’s current path is incompatible with the democratic values that form the basis of membership in the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance, and thus endangers Georgia’s path to Euro-Atlantic integration,” Zeya said.
