San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man in Victorville on Thursday.

Deputies responded to the intersection of Mariposa Road and Locust Avenue for reports of a pedestrian struck by two vehicles, department spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez said.

According to the Victor Valley News Group, when officers arrived around 10 a.m. they found the pedestrian had been “jumping in and out of traffic just before he was struck by the two vehicles.”

“The man stood up and ran toward officers with an unknown object, according to an eyewitness,” the outlet added.

The officers then opened fire and fired at least five shots at the man, witnesses told VVNG.

The man was struck at least once and was pronounced dead at the scene, Rodriguez said.
