Charleston man arrested for voyeur incident, charged in other cases

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Charleston Police announced they have made an arrest in connection with a “peeping tom” incident in downtown Charleston and charged the suspect in another incident in West Ashley.

According to police, Juan Angel Borrero-Bristol, 43, of Charleston was charged with two counts of voyeurism, first-degree burglary and two counts of assault with intent to commit a sex offense.

These charges stem from an incident on July 6, in which around 2:40 a.m., a suspect, now identified as Borrero-Bristol, was observed on the porch of a home on Radcliffe Street looking through the window at two victims.

During the investigation, detectives were also notified of a burglary and sexual assault that occurred just over an hour later around 4 a.m. in West Ashley, where the suspect’s description matched that of the first incident. Officers responded to a report that an unknown man entered a residence on Ashley Crossing Drive and sexually assaulted two victims.

The investigation also linked Borrero-Bristol to an attempted burglary on Saint Philip Street in 2023, and he was charged for that incident as well.

The city’s police chief, Chito Walker, thanked the public for their support.

“These cases were solved through the combined efforts of our community, the media and our officers and detectives who worked around the clock on these investigations,” Walker said. “We continue to recognize that community vigilance and engagement protect the well-being of our city.”

Borrero-Bristol is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center pending a bail hearing.
