Several former Steelers in talks after Cameron Sutton’s suspension

On Monday, the NFL informed the Pittsburgh Steelers that cornerback Cameron Sutton will be suspended without pay for the first eight games of the 2024 season. This leaves the Steelers once again without a starting cornerback or a viable nickel corner.

What do the Steelers do now? They could simply focus their attention on the guys they already have on the roster. Darius Rush and Beanie Bishop Jr. are both interesting players who could develop into good starters.

Or Pittsburgh could do what Sutton did and try to bring back a former Steelers cornerback in free agency who can be helpful.

Two names stand out as players still on the market. The most obvious is Patrick Peterson, who appears to be sitting back, biding his time and enjoying his summer until he is ready to play again. With a full training camp and preseason under his belt, there is no doubt that Peterson could be an exceptional slot cornerback.

But what about Chandon Sullivan? Sullivan played 422 snaps for the Steelers in the slot last season and did an admirable job. He’s familiar with the scheme, has plenty of experience, and his return would be seamless.
