Confession at police request leads to charges of sexual assault

A man who applied to the Wichita Falls Police Department’s training academy has been charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl, court documents show.

Diego Abram McCullough, 26, was indicted by a Wichita County grand jury on June 26 on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child. If convicted, this first-degree crime is punishable by up to life in prison.

According to court documents, McCullough was released Monday on $50,000 bail.

Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The allegation came to light in June 2023 when McCullough was completing his application to the academy.

A criminal history questionnaire asked whether the applicant had engaged in sexual activity with anyone younger than 17 after his or her 17th birthday.
