Dangerously hot and humid for the Bronx; rain and storms coming towards the end of the week

Today will be hot and humid. A scattered shower or thunderstorm this afternoon cannot be ruled out. No severe thunderstorms are expected. The heat and humidity will persist throughout the week.

CONTINUED: Unfortunately, there is no improvement in humidity in sight this week. The probability of storms increases from Thursday to Saturday.

An AIR QUALITY WARNING remains in effect until 11pm this evening. There is a possibility of another warning being issued tomorrow. A HEAT WARNING remains in effect until 8pm Wednesday.

LATEST ON BERYL: Beryl has weakened to a tropical depression and is currently expected to remain well northwest and west of our area through Thursday afternoon. We are not expecting a direct storm. However, some tropical moisture will interact with a cold front Thursday into Friday, bringing isolated tropical downpours to our area.

It’s too early to say exactly how much rain we’ll get. It all depends on how quickly this storm moves out and if it drags on into the weekend. The biggest concern is localized flooding due to poor drainage and low lying areas. On the positive side, it’s beneficial rain that will help us with our current drought situation.

Today: Hazy and muggy again. Hot air blowing. Chance of an isolated storm. Highs around 92.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy, warm and muggy. Lows around 76.

Wednesday: Very hot and humid. Chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Highs around 88. Lows around 77.

Thursday (Probable Storm Warning): Warm and tropical. Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain. Highs around 87. Lows around 75.

Sunday: Sunny, hazy, and hot. Not so humid. Highs around 91. Lows around 74.
