Recall alert: Volkswagen Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, Golf R

Volkswagen is recalling 84,432 vehicles because their rear view cameras may not display an image.

The recalled models include:

The company told federal safety officials at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA): “Various software bugs can cause a delay or black screen of the rearview mirror image, or the system may not start at all.”

The company says it is not aware of any accident or injury that could cause the problem, but has received “499 warranty claims” related to it.

Dealers will install a software patch to fix the problem. Software issues can mean a quick service appointment. However, these cars cannot download the update over the air, so owners must bring them in for the patch.

By law, dealers do not charge fees for repairs as part of a recall.
