Five arrested for raping mentally disabled woman in Karimganj

Karimganj, July 3: Five youths were arrested for the alleged gang rape of a mentally challenged woman in Karimganj, Assam.

The incident occurred on the night of July 1, when the victim, a woman with mental health problems, was reportedly wandering the streets in Kayasthagram district within the Nilambazar police station area.

According to reports, the accused forcibly dragged her into an auto rickshaw and sexually assaulted her.

After receiving information about the crime, SP Partha Pratim Das ordered an immediate investigation.

During investigation, Additional SP Pratap Das and OC Nilambazar PS collected CCTV footage, which led to the arrest of five accused on Tuesday evening.

The accused were identified as Fakhr Mia, Abdul Mastaq, Shamim Uddin, Riyaz Uddin and Pranesh Sharma.
