Houston Astros lose JP France for remainder of season

The problems on the mound continue to mount for the Houston Astros, who announced that Starting pitcher JP France underwent surgery on July 1 to repair a torn capsule in his right shoulder, removing him from the mix for the remainder of the 2024 Major League Baseball season.

France last played in MLB on April 23 against the Chicago Cubs.. However, discomfort in his pitching shoulder has been a constant throughout training camp. The right-handed pitcher has made five starts for the Astros, going 0-3 with a 7.46 ERA after allowing 21 runs in 25.1 innings.

After his five major league starts, France was sent to Triple-A and made one start before being placed on injured reserve.In his lone performance with the SugarLand Space Cowboys, he allowed three runs in three and two-thirds innings.

The Astros have suffered from injuries to their starters

Due to multiple injuries among their pitching staff, The Astros have used 10 different starters so far this season. The only pitchers who have remained relatively healthy are Ronel Blanco, Hunter Brown, Spencer Arrighetti and Framber Valdez, which currently make up the rotation.

In addition to France, Houston has Cristian Javier, Justin Verlander and Jake Bloss on injured reserve, with Jose Urquidy out of action due to Tommy John surgery.
