Woman killed, 4 injured after police chase in Warren ends in crash

WARREN, Mich. – A woman was killed and four people injured in an accident during a police chase in Warren.

The accident occurred after 1:35 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024 in the area of ​​10 Mile Road west of Dequindre Road in Warren.

According to police, two Warren police officers in full uniform and a fully marked patrol car were on patrol in the area of ​​8 Mile Road and Ryan Road when they noticed three Dodge Chargers traveling west on 8 Mile Road at a high rate of speed. The officers turned on their lights, but the three Chargers did not stop.

Two of the Chargers headed west on 8 Mile Road and then north on Ryan Road. At 10 Mile Road and Ryan Road, two of the Chargers turned left and continued west while police pursued them.

On 10 Mile Road west of Dequindre Road, a Charger driven by a 26-year-old man collided with a Jeep Cherokee that was not involved in the chase. The Jeep driver was injured and the passenger, a 42-year-old woman, was killed.

The driver of the Jeep, the driver of the Dodge and two other passengers in the Charger were taken to a nearby hospital. All are in stable condition. The 26-year-old driver was taken into police custody.

Police are currently trying to identify the driver of the second Charger involved in the chase. The third Charger returned to the scene and the occupants cooperated with investigators.

“Like any police chase, this chase was closely monitored in real time by patrol officers. There was light traffic throughout the chase, which lasted approximately three minutes. This is an active and ongoing investigation with investigators looking for additional video along the chase,” Warren police said in a press release.
