Retired West Harford firefighter seriously injured in off-duty accident

The former WHFD and current New London Fire Department is the beneficiary of a GoFundMe page asking for donations.



WEST HARTFORD/NEW LONDON, CT — Local firefighters are asking the public for help raising money for a retired West Hartford Fire Department firefighter who was seriously injured in New Hampshire.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for former WHFD member Dave Skau, who currently works for the New London Fire Department.

According to West Hartford Firefighters Local 1241, Skau was recently injured in an off-duty accident.

“Please consider helping with a donation during this time of need,” the firefighters’ union wrote.

The fundraising goal is $15,000 and as of Thursday morning, $3,515 had already been raised.

According to the GoFundMe page created by the New London County Peer Support Group, Skau “underwent numerous surgeries at a Concord hospital in New Hampshire.”

“Dave has a lengthy recovery ahead of him and will be unable to work for an extended period of time,” the GoFundMe page states.

“He’s the kind of guy who would do anything for anyone, a caring and loving family man and an all-around great guy.”
