ABC-7 First Alert: Heat warning and increased chance of rain

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) – We have an initial ABC-7 heat warning in place. Temperatures will rise today and the chance of rain will increase.

A heat advisory is in effect today for El Paso, Las Cruces, Chaparral, parts of Sierra Blanca and Fort Hancock. The advisory will remain in effect until 6:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

Temperatures are expected to be around 38 degrees across the region today. Temperatures are expected to reach 38 degrees in El Paso and 39 degrees in Las Cruces.

The probability of rain is increased today and is locally at 50%.

Rain chances continue to increase in the Sacramento Mountains as well. A flood warning is in effect in Cloudcroft throughout Wednesday, meaning excessive rain can cause flooding. Rainwater can cause flooding in nearby rivers and streams, which can significantly impact burn scars from the ongoing Ruidoso fires.

As of the last update, Salt Fire is burning 7,939 acres and is 55% contained. South Fork Fire is burning 17,556 acres and is 54% contained this morning.
