Russia attacks Kharkiv with glide bombs, one dead and 12 injured

Russian forces launched another glide bombing attack on Kharkiv on June 23, hitting civilian infrastructure.

At 5 p.m., according to Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Syniehubov, at least one person was killed and eleven others injured.

President Volodymyr Zelensky later said in his evening address shortly after 8 p.m. that the number of injured had risen to twelve.

Moscow has recently intensified its attacks on Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, using missiles, glide bombs and drones that have destroyed energy infrastructure and killed civilians.

On June 23, Russian troops attacked Kharkiv with three Guild bombs, damaging an educational institution and multi-storey residential buildings in the Shevchenkivskyi district, Syniehubov reported.

In Kholodnohirskyi district, two private houses were destroyed in the attack. A bomb hit an industrial zone in Kievskyi district, the governor said.

Parts of Kharkiv are currently without electricity and the subway is not functioning, said President Volodymyr Zelensky after the attack.

“We will definitely restore everything and return to normality. We are working as hard as possible to deprive the Russians of the opportunity to terrorize our cities,” he wrote on Telegram.

“Modern air defense systems for Ukraine, powerful combat aircraft, long-range weapons and sufficient determination on the part of our partners will certainly be able to stop the Russian terrorists.”

Russia attacked Kharkiv with glide bombs for the second time this weekend.

On June 22, Russian forces also attacked the city of Kharkiv with glide bombs, killing at least three people and injuring 54.

Three glide bombs hit an enterprise in Kholodnohirskyi district, another hit a five-story residential building in Osnovianskyi district. The attack was reportedly launched from Belgorod region, the regional prosecutor’s office reported.

Sounds of explosions were reported at around 3:15 p.m. local time. The attack was carried out with glide bombs and targeted a residential area.
