The Mercer County Coroner’s Office is investigating an incident at a wildlife refuge on the Shenango River Reservoir.

Hermitage Police called the Clark Volunteer Fire Department at 10 p.m. Tuesday to close the entrance to the Golden Run Wildlife Area on Lake Road near Neshannock Road.

By sunrise, the fire department had already left, but the entrance to the wildlife sanctuary was still blocked with signs reading “Emergency Ahead.”

Authorities have not yet released any further details about the incident, but say that the investigation is still ongoing.

The Golden Run Wildlife Area is located on the south shore of the lake and offers a public boat ramp, hiking trail and parking.
