Deputy witnesses Jeep rolling over several times in accident in New Bern

NEW BERN, NC (WITN) – An Eastern Carolina sheriff’s deputy said he was waiting in traffic when a Jeep crashed and rolled past his vehicle several times.

Corporal Kelly Cox of the Craven County Sheriff’s Office said the accident occurred around 3:50 p.m. at the intersection of Neuse Boulevard and Glenburnie Road in New Bern.

Cox said he was in the left-turn lane of Neuse Boulevard and was about to turn onto South Glenburnie Road when the Jeep rolled about 60 feet (18 meters) and came to a stop 15 feet (4.5 meters) from the deputy’s vehicle.

Cox says another vehicle was hit in the accident. He says everyone is outside and on foot.

A local nurse rushed to the scene to help, Cox says. He tells us he immediately radioed in to report the accident so New Bern police could respond.

Emergency services are still on site and traffic delays are to be expected.
