Three dead and four shootings: On the night of Father’s Day, violence escalates in the Big Apple

Three people were killed and four others shot in five separate incidents on Father’s Day night as gun violence rapidly increased in the Big Apple, authorities said.

A 44-year-old man was shot in the face, a 40-year-old man was hit in the chest and a 37-year-old man was hit in the leg. The shooting happened around 11:40 p.m. Sunday at the corner of West 207th Street and 10th Avenue in Inwood, police said.

The two elderly men were initially taken to hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to their injuries, police said.

The youngest man was taken to hospital in stable condition.

The motive for the deadly violence was initially unknown.

About 35 minutes earlier, another man was killed on Ralph Avenue near Chauncey Street on the grounds of NYCHA’s Brevoort Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant, police said.

Tyreek Ogarro, 32, was hit multiple times in the upper body when shots were fired around 11:05 p.m., police said.

He was taken to Kings County Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead.

The motive for the shooting also remains unclear.

Hours earlier, around 8:45 p.m., a 29-year-old man was shot outside a church in the Claremont Village neighborhood of the Bronx, police said.

The victim was struck in the upper body by a bullet in front of the Iglesia Pentecostal Cristo La Unica Esperanza on East 169th Street near Grant Avenue, police said.

He was privately transported to BronxCare Health System, where his condition was listed as stable.

Another person was shot around 1 a.m. Monday on the grounds of NYCHA’s South Beach Houses on Norway Avenue near Kramer Street in the Arrochar neighborhood of Staten Island, police said.

The victim, whose gender and age were not immediately known, was taken to Staten Island University Hospital North with non-life-threatening injuries.

In another act of violence in the early morning hours, a man was shot around 3:10 a.m. just outside the W & Fam Deli Grocery on Flatbush Avenue near East 31st Street, authorities said.

The victim was hit in the upper left abdomen – and the bullet flew out through his lower back, police said.

The injured man stumbled to the Flatbush Avenue-Brooklyn College subway station, where another person found him lying on the stairs and called 911, police said.

He was taken to Kings County Hospital Center where his condition was listed as stable.

No arrests were made in any of the incidents.
