Shooting in Round Rock, Texas: Ara Duke and Lyndsey Vicknair killed

Police are asking the public to submit photos and videos of the incident via an online evidence portal.

ROUND ROCK, Texas —

Officials have released the identities of the two people killed in a shooting in Round Rock over the weekend.

Ara Duke, 54, and Lyndsey Vicknair, 33, were identified as the women killed during the Juneteenth celebration Saturday night at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

Police said both were innocent bystanders to the shooting, which left 14 other people injured. None of the victims were involved in the altercation. The victims range in age from 10 to 62.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the tragic loss of innocent life and the injuries sustained by several others in Saturday’s senseless act of violence. Our deepest condolences go out to the families affected by this tragedy,” Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks said in a statement.

According to police, Vicknair was from Manor, while Duke was from Pflugerville. Duke was also an employee at IDEA Public Schools’ Rundberg campus. The school released a statement about her death that said in part, “Mrs. Duke embodied what it meant to be a Rattler. Her death is a tremendous loss to our staff and our students.”

Police are asking anyone with videos or photos of the shooting to upload them through an evidence request portal.

What happened Saturday night?

According to police, the incident began when two groups of people began fighting near the festival’s vendor area. At least one person then pulled out a gun and began shooting before leaving the scene.

Chief Banks thanked the police and firefighters on scene for their quick action in responding to the shooting, applying tourniquets and performing CPR.

“I have no doubt that their quick action in assisting the victims saved lives,” Banks said.

The FBI is assisting Round Rock police in the investigation along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). The ATF is also offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
