Man arrested on suspicion of stabbing in Mira Mesa

A pregnant woman was stabbed to death near an ATM in a shopping center parking lot on Saturday morning.

SAN DIEGO – San Diego police have arrested the man suspected of stabbing a 25-year-old pregnant woman multiple times in a parking lot, authorities announced Sunday.

The robbery occurred around 9:55 a.m. Saturday at a shopping center in the Mira Mesa neighborhood, 8251 Mira Mesa Blvd., according to San Diego police. He made no statements or demands before or during the robbery, and no property was taken, police said.

“A male suspect approached the victim and struck her in the upper body. The suspect pushed the victim to the ground and then struck her two more times in the upper body,” the department reported on Saturday.

The victim suffered deep cuts to his neck, left shoulder and chin and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police identified the suspect as 27-year-old Cole Klemke. He lives in Carmel Valley and is currently homeless, police said.

Klemke was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on attempted first-degree murder charges. He is scheduled to go on trial on June 20.

According to police, the woman was released from the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is now at home.
