Tax consequences for Eatontown; neck-and-neck race in Monmouth

Whether they compete in Saratoga Racetrack, Aqueduct Racetrackor Monmouth Parkthe owner/trainer duo Klaravich Stables and Chad Brown are winning in the Northeast.

A week ago they won an allowance race in Saratoga with Complementary and the Ogden Phipps Stakes (G1) with Randomly followed by the first victory on 15 June by Unitary economy during the Belmont at the Big A Meeting. Then came another stakes highlight – a stalk-and-pounce win on Saturday from Tax implications in the $152,500 Eatontown Stakes (G3T) at Monmouth Park.

Brown not only won the race, he also finished second with Amo Racings Maman Joon whose comeback from last time was three quarters of a length behind that of her stablemate.

The Robert Falcone-trained Spirit and glory the early leader, fell to third place.

Tax Implications and Maman Joon ran well despite a slow pace that made the 1 1/16-mile race on turf a final sprint. They were able to outrun their rivals, with Tax Implications outpacing Maman Joon, who ran later. The winner ran 1 1/16 miles on firm turf in 1:43.98 after Spirit And Glory had set split times of :25.74, :51.16 and 1:15.18. She paid $9.60 for the win.

“She was on the move the whole time and when I asked her to run, she ran,” said winning jockey Flavien Prat.

A 4-year-old daughter of Mehmas Tax Implications scored her first stakes win for Seth Klarman’s Klaravich Stables after four previous stakes placings. Bred in the UK by Aoife Kent out of the Medal d’Oro mare Country Woman She has a record of 2-4-1 in nine races and earnings of $251,210.

NO SPLITTING Fort Washington, Running Bee CLOSE FINISH

Brown had another win an hour later on the card with Calumet Farm’s Running bee although he had to share it with the outsider trained by Shug McGaughey Fort Washington in a $157,500 Monmouth Stakes (G3T) thriller.

At first glance it seemed as though Fort Washington, catching up on the outside, might finish with a narrow lead over the combative Running Bee, but a favourable nod from the latter meant the judges could not separate the top two places.

Tawny Port was just behind in third place Siege of Boston on fourth place.

The winners covered 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:48.70. Fort Washington paid $31.80 for the win, the higher of the two races, while Running Bee brought in $6.20.

Kendrick Carmouche rode Magic Cap Stables’ Fort Washington and Vincent Cheminaud rode Running Bee. Both horses scored their first graded stakes wins in the race.

A 5-year-old son of the late Calumet Farm stallion English Channel, Running Bee was bred in Kentucky by English Channel Co-Owners and Gordon Gilliam. He was purchased as a yearling for $19,000 at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale by Calumet Farm out of the Hunter Valley Farm consignment.

Fort Washington was purchased from the Taylor Made Sales Agency consignment at the Fasig-Tipton July 2023 for $260,000. Bred by Joseph Allen and White Birch Farm from the Turtle shell mare azalea he is a 5-year-old son of Warfront one of North America’s finest turf stallions, for sale at Claiborne Farm for $100,000.
