Person killed after threatening police with a knife

SOUTH JORDAN — According to police, a person was shot and died by police on Saturday afternoon after they threatened them with a knife.

South Jordan police said they received a call reporting “a suspicious person allegedly looking through car windows” and located them at a park.

As police approached, the suspect pulled out a knife, according to a SJPD press release.

The police report that they tried “several times” to disarm and arrest the men, but that they “approached the officers” with the knife and were shot.

They were taken into custody and taken to a hospital where they later died, police said.

The SJPD said the incident is under investigation and the officers involved have been placed on leave pending further investigation.

According to police, the area around Skye Dr. and Skye Park will remain closed while the investigation continues.
