UCONN fraternity president charged after alleged hazing incident

Connecticut State Police just announced the arrest of a 23-year-old New Haven man after receiving complaints about a hazing attack at a fraternity earlier this year.

Connecticut State Police have arrested David Vallejo, 23, of New Haven, according to a news release from Connecticut State Police and Investigating Trooper Trainee Crawford. Vallejo was head pledgemaster and president of an unnamed (redacted) fraternity at UConn-Storrs. According to the arrest warrant, the CSP investigation began after an unnamed 18-year-old UConn student who had hoped to join the fraternity filed a report following a series of harassment incidents in February 2024.

The victim alleged that the hazing occurred during the process of forming a fraternity in the town of Willington, Connecticut, in February.

According to Connecticut State Police, the victim claims she was abused, verbally abused and choked three times. According to CSP Troop C, complainant was physically assaulted and choked by Vallejo after he failed to perform a series of push-ups ordered by Vallejo and other pledgemasters from the unnamed fraternity. Vallejo also allegedly assaulted appellant the following day after another failed round of push-ups, and another attack allegedly occurred when appellant attempted to abort the pledge process and return his fraternity uniform.

Vallejo was taken into custody on May 3, 2024. He is charged with third-degree assault, third-degree strangulation/asphyxia, third-degree assault and second-degree unlawful deprivation of liberty. Vallejo was released after posting a $30,000 cash/surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on 5/21/24 at 9 a.m.
