Surveillance images released of suspect wanted for sexual abuse of a child at YMCA in Wilmington, Delaware

WILMINGTON, Delaware (WPVI) – Police are searching for a suspect after investigators say a child was sexually assaulted at the YMCA in Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday.

Authorities are also trying to locate a possible witness to the crime.

It happened at the location in the Chestnut Street apartment block.

New Castle County Police told Action News the victim was under 12 years old.

“The crime we are currently accused of is sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12,” said Sergeant Andrea Botterbusch of the New Castle County Police.

Authorities said they were combing the area looking for the person accused of sexual assault.

“We know it happened in the bathhouse on the YMCA property next to the pool house,” said Botterbusch. “It came as an emergency call from someone who was on site.”

Police released surveillance images of the suspect entering the building.

Investigators also released images of a possible witness seen on surveillance cameras. He is described as bald and was seen wearing gray shorts with no shirt.
