Justice Department releases Phoenix Police Department investigation report into civil rights violations on Thursday

PHOENIX (AZFamily)— The Justice Department is expected to release its full report Thursday on the nearly three-year investigation into allegations Phoenix police committed civil rights violations, sources told Arizona’s Family.

A source with firsthand knowledge told us that the results are expected to show that Phoenix police violated the Constitution.

The Justice Department announced in August 2021 its investigation into whether officers used excessive force and mistreated homeless people.

It also investigated whether the officers discriminated against people and whether they retaliated against protesters.

Sources have told Arizona’s family that the city of Phoenix and the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association, the police union, want to know about those findings when the Justice Department releases the report to the public.

Earlier this year, the city sent a letter to the Justice Department criticizing it for not disclosing its findings prior to publication.

As of February, the city of Phoenix had spent $7.5 million on the Justice Department’s investigation.
