Nearly a dozen dogs and three cats seized in Ansonia animal cruelty case

One of the dogs found in the house was dead, police said. Two dogs found in “extreme health” were euthanized.

ANSONIA, Connecticut — Two men have been arrested in Ansonia following an investigation into animal cruelty in connection with several dogs that were found “emaciated” and in need of treatment, city police said Tuesday.

According to police, Javon Coverson, 30, and Assante Coverson, 26, are charged with animal cruelty, failure to comply with dog ownership regulations and failure to comply with rabies control regulations, among other charges. Javon Coverson was charged with eight counts of the first count and seven counts on each of the other two counts.

Police said investigators were at a home on Condon Drive on June 6 after obtaining a search warrant for an “unrelated criminal investigation” when they found the dogs in a condition suggesting “severe neglect.”
