Amid recent shootings, 10,000 Southern Intrepids mobilize on Campbellton Road

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – In the wake of recent shootings in metro Atlanta, the message of 10,000 Fearless of the South has taken on new and stronger meaning.

“Bring love back to the community. Stop the killings, go to the guns and bring peace to our community,” said Community Patrol Director Barry Muhammad.

The group gathered Saturday on Campbellton Road, the same road where there was a violent carjacking the day before. The victim was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds.

The shooting was one of four shootings on the street this year. Another 20-year-old man was injured earlier this week, and two separate shootings at an apartment complex on Campbellton Road killed an 18-year-old and injured a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old.

Not only did the group of men and women come together, but they came out of these four walls and took to the streets.

“When they see us, they start to get attention or understand that someone cares,” Muhammad said.

Metro Atlanta has had a violent month. Shootings at Candler Road and Rainbow Drive Friday night left two people dead. A Pin Up shooting in Decatur last week left several people injured.

A shooting at Buckhead nightclub Elleven45 in May killed two people and led to the club’s temporary closure.

“We seek to protect youth so that our children can grow up, especially in Atlanta. it’s the new black Hollywood they’re calling it. As a majority of us begin to migrate here, we want to make this a place of refuge,” said Da’Quon Muhammad.

The group said it will continue to patrol its communities to let people know they are cared for and that there are other ways to resolve disputes.

“That’s the most important thing for us right now: making our communities a safe place to live,” Da’Quon Muhammad said.
