At least six dead in bus crash in northwest Syria

At least six people, including three children, were killed in a bus accident in northwest Syria, activists and a war monitoring group said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an observatory with a network of sources across the country, said about 20 children arrived safely at hospital in the town of Darkush, west of Idlib.

The group said the bus was carrying students of a Quran memorization institute when it plunged into the waters of the Orontes River.

The bus overturned on a road in the Ayoun Ara region near the town of Darkush in western Idlib. Fighting did not play a role in the accident, the group said.

There were around 32 people on the bus, including teachers and 25 children, Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the observatory, told dpa.

He added that they were on a field trip.
