Interstate 10 will be closed at Loop 1604 this weekend

SAN ANTONIO – Motorists will have to endure another round of major construction closures in the far northwest this weekend.

As part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, TxDOT will implement several closures beginning Friday, June 7 at 9 p.m. through Monday, June 10 at 5 a.m., weather permitting. These closures are:

  • Main lanes of I-10 westbound and collector-distributor at the Loop 1604 interchange.

  • Main lanes of I-10 eastbound at the Loop 1604 interchange.

  • Take Loop 1604, the westbound access road, at the intersection with I-10.

  • Loop 1604: Eastbound collector and distribution road and access road at the intersection with I-10.

  • Cloverleafs from I-10 westbound to Loop 1604 westbound, from Loop 1604 eastbound to I-10 westbound, and from I-10 eastbound to Loop 1604 eastbound.

The main lanes of Loop 1604 will remain open throughout the weekend.

These are the minimum closures required for the planned work. All closures are subject to change as needed. Local police authorities will be directing traffic during this time. Drivers are asked to plan ahead for delays. A map and detour information is provided below.

I-10 WB to Loop 1604 WB

All travelers in the I-10 WB main lanes and those wishing to access Loop 1604 WB should exit onto the I-10 WB access road after UTSA Boulevard and follow the I-10 WB access road through the interchange. Travelers should either take the first ramp after the Loop 1604 interchange to rejoin the I-10 WB main lanes or use the U-turn at La Cantera Parkway to access Loop 1604 WB. Those wishing to access Loop 1604 WB should follow the I-10 EB access road back to the Loop 1604 WB access road and merge onto the Loop 1604 WB main lanes at Valero Way.

I-10 EB and Loop 1604 EB

All travelers on the I-10 EB main lanes and those wishing to access Loop 1604 EB will exit to the I-10 EB collector and distributor road to travel through the Loop 1604 interchange and rejoin the main lanes after the interchange. Those wishing to access Loop 1604 EB will exit at Exit 557. Travelers will utilize the U-turn at UTSA Boulevard and then follow the I-10 WB access road to the Loop 1604 EB access road. Traffic may access the Loop 1604 EB main lanes via the on-ramp just before Vance Jackson Road.

Loop 1604 EB, access road to I-10 WB

All travelers on the Loop 1604 EB access road and the main lanes of Loop 1604 EB who wish to access I-10 WB should use the Loop 1604 EB exit to I-10 EB. Traffic will exit the road at Exit 557 and then make a U-turn at UTSA Boulevard and follow the I-10 WB access road to the Loop 1604 EB access road. Traffic can access the main lanes of Loop 1604 EB via the on-ramp just before Vance Jackson Road. Travelers wishing to access I-10 WB should remain on the I-10 WB access road via the Loop 1604 interchange and access the main lanes of I-10 WB via the first ramp after the interchange.

Loop 1604 WB, access road to I-10 EB

All travelers on the Loop 1604 WB access road who wish to proceed through the I-10 interchange should take the I-10 WB access road exit and use the U-turn at La Cantera Parkway. Travelers should follow the I-10 EB access road back to the Loop 1604 WB access road and merge onto the main roads of Loop 1604 WB at Valero Way.

The closures will allow workers to install steel beams for construction of the overpass ramps. No major construction closures are planned during the week of the July 4 holiday.
