Winona man sentenced to three years in prison for gun incident – Post Bulletin

WINONA, Minnesota – A Winona, Minnesota man has been sentenced to three years in prison for shooting another man after a fight.

Jayden Michael Jessie, 20, was sentenced in Winona County District Court on Thursday, May 30, 2024, after pleading guilty to second-degree aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon.

In his confession, Jessie admitted to shooting another person outside a residence in Winona in March 2024 after a fight broke out and someone handed him a firearm.

Jessie also faces charges in Freeborn County for unauthorized possession of a firearm stemming from an incident in Albert Lea in which Jessie allegedly pointed a loaded firearm at another person.

According to court documents, police responded to a 911 call after shots were fired outside an apartment building on the evening of March 31, 2024. They reviewed surveillance video from outside the building that showed Jessie involved in a fight and surrounded by a crowd of onlookers.

According to the indictment, when officers reviewed the video, they found Jessie “taking more than he gave.” He then walks toward a person in the crowd who hands him an object, the indictment states. Jessie then assumes a “shooting stance” and the crowd is seen scattering. The video shows “dirt splatter” from where bullets hit the ground, according to the document.

Search warrants from Winona County document that bullets were recovered from the ground outside the building.

Jessie was given credit for 61 days of his sentence. He was sentenced to serve two years of the sentence in custody and one year of probation if he behaves well.
