Rob Hornby suspended for seven days, misses Royal Ascot

Rob Hornby will serve his suspension from June 16 to 22 | Shovel Dyga

Because Rob Hornby failed to attend weigh-in after finishing third in a race at Nottingham, he has been banned for seven days from 16 to 22 June and will miss the Royal Ascot meeting.

The incident occurred on Sunday 2 June in a Grade 5 handicap at Nottingham. The rider was riding Surrey Belle (GB) (Golden Horn {GB}), who was one of the favourites to cross the line in third place. However, Hornby’s horse was later disqualified as he failed to be weighed. The race stewards’ report stated: “The weighmaster objected to Surrey Belle, who was in third place and ridden by Rob Hornby, on the grounds that the rider failed to be weighed. Surrey Belle was disqualified and the placings were changed as follows: First – Expressionless, Second – Marbuzet, Third – Merrijig and Fourth – Liberated Lad.”

The report continued with a brief statement that Hornby had been questioned and subsequently suspended and was not entitled to a riding fee.
