The two friends sat in the passenger seats of the super sports car.

Meanwhile, an autorickshaw driver who narrowly escaped the duo’s fate told News18 that the three boys in the car were visibly drunk. Ameen told the station that after the accident they asked the crowd not to cause a “problem” and that they would pay for the damage immediately.

He said the car was traveling at over 200 km/h. He claimed one of the boys fled and later returned.

Police said they were in possession of video surveillance footage showing the three boys drinking at two bars before the accident.

Hours after the accident, the accused was released by the juvenile court on the condition that he write an essay on road safety. However, after a nationwide outcry, he was sent to a reformatory until June 5.

The boy’s father was later arrested for negligent driving. His grandfather was arrested for trying to pressure the boy’s driver to take responsibility for the accident. Now his mother is also under police surveillance.

Police told a local court on Thursday that the boy’s blood sample was swapped with that of an unidentified woman. They suspect that the woman could be his mother.

Police told PTI that blood samples from all the occupants of the car came back negative.

“After the accident, the police station (Yerawada) sent the youth, his two friends who were with him in the car and the (family) driver to Sassoon General Hospital to give blood samples. Of these samples, the youth’s blood sample was swapped. Theirs (other three samples) also returned negative results (no traces of alcohol were found),” an official told the news agency.

“We are investigating why their results were also negative,” he added.

Police have already arrested two doctors and a hospital employee for tampering with the boy’s blood sample to make it appear that he was not drunk at the time of the accident.
