At least one dead after house explosion in Wisconsin; police believe ammunition discharged due to heat – KIRO 7 News Seattle

MIDDLETON, Wisconsin – One person was killed when a house exploded in the city of Springfield, Wisconsin, late Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. just outside of Middleton. When emergency crews arrived at the house, it was already engulfed in flames, WITI reported.

Elise Schaffer, a spokeswoman for the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that one person was killed Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. The medical examiner’s office is investigating the death.

Police said the heat from the fire ignited the ammunition in the house. Neighbors in the area reported hearing gunshots, the AP reported.

The name of the victim was not released. The cause of the explosion is still being investigated, police said.
