Update: 28.05.2024 07:15 IST

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government on Monday suspended seven officials in connection with the wildfire in the Rajkot wildlife sanctuary that killed 28 people, concluding that it was “gross negligence” to allow the wildlife sanctuary to operate without the necessary permits, the government said.

State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi said the officials have been suspended based on the report of the Special Investigation Team. Police have also taken some people into custody and formed 17 teams to arrest others involved, the minister added. The process to complete DNA verification of the victims is underway and the families will be contacted soon, hopefully by Monday evening, the home minister added.
