MARIETTA – Four people were injured, two seriously, in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon.

According to Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Lea Mikes, OSHP received the emergency call about the accident at 3:32 p.m. on State Route 7 just south of mile marker 31 between Reno and Newport, not far from the Willow Island Lock and Dam.

According to Mikes, 23-year-old Alicia Hockenberry of Marietta was driving a 2009 Nissan and 25-year-old Brenyn Pallisco of Clarington, Ohio was driving a 2017 Chevy Cruz. Both were traveling south on State Route 7.

Mikes said Hockenberry stopped to turn left onto a private road and Pallisco “did not maintain a safe, clear distance” and struck Hockenberry’s vehicle, causing it to veer off the right side of the road, where it struck a mailbox and plunged down an embankment.

She said Pallisco’s vehicle veered to the left and was struck by a 2015 Mazda van driven by 78-year-old Betty McFarland of St. Marys, West Virginia, traveling south.

According to Mikes, Pallisco had a passenger in his vehicle, Hana Conger, 29, of Sistersville, West Virginia. Hockenberry, Pallisco, Conger and McFarland were all injured in the crash.

“All were taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital,” She said.

According to Mikes, Hockenberry and Conger suffered moderate injuries, were treated and released.

“Brenyn Pallisco had serious injuries and was transported by ambulance from Marietta Memorial Hospital to Grant Hospital in Columbus,” Said Mikes.

Pallisco was not the only person seriously injured.

“Betty McFarland suffered serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to Grant Hospital in Columbus,” Said Mikes.

She said all three vehicles in the accident were “severely damaged.”

Mikes said the accident is still under investigation and charges are pending.

“Pay attention,” Mikes warned drivers. “Leave enough space in front of you for parked vehicles.”

She said this is especially important with Memorial Day weekend approaching.
