Amtrak and NJ Transit trains suspended due to fallen wires at Penn Station

According to Amtrak, all trains between New York and Philadelphia were suspended on Wednesday evening due to downed power lines that supply electricity to trains at Pennsylvania Station.

The power outage halted Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains, an Amtrak spokesman, Jason Abrams, said in an email. Long Island Rail Road and subway trains that stop at Penn Station were not affected, according to a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which operates both services.

The outage began at 5:05 p.m., Abrams said, adding that crews were working to restore power. At 7:15 p.m. it was still unclear when train services could resume, he said.

According to a New Jersey Transit spokesperson, New Jersey Transit riders’ tickets and passes are honored on PATH trains that run between Manhattan and New Jersey. To bypass Penn Station, travelers can also take a ferry to Hoboken, where six New Jersey Transit lines run.
