11-year-old boy injured in boating accident in North Carolina

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said the incident occurred at High Rock Lake on the north side of Crane Creek.

ROWAN COUNTY, NC – An 11-year-old boy was injured in a boating accident in Rowan County.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said the incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. Sunday at High Rock Lake on the north side of Crane Creek

North Carolina Wildlife, Rowan County EMS, Miller’s Ferry Fire Department and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident.

A boat was involved in the accident and the child was injured by a propeller strike.

NC Wildlife said the boy injured in the accident will be OK.

No charges have been filed against anyone over the incident.

Boating Safety Tips from the NC Wildlife Commission

  • Be on the lookout for other people in the water and other boaters.
  • Have sober boaters
  • Make sure you have your boat’s safety equipment on hand
  • Children under 13 must wear an appropriate life jacket – which is also required by law
