Rockwell man charged with sexual assault of teen

ROCKWELL, NC (WBTV) – A Rockwell man has been arrested for allegedly sexually molesting a juvenile and contributing to his daughter’s delinquency.

Officers with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Wayne Mize Sr. on May 3.

An investigation into Mize began in October 2023 when officials said they received reports from the parents of a young teenager that Mize had sexually abused them. He allegedly immediately informed his family members, who then reported him to law enforcement.

Then on April 30, officers were called to a wooded area along the 600 block of Zion Church Road for a welfare check.

Mize and his 12-year-old daughter were found in a broken down vehicle. According to law enforcement, they appeared to have no food, running water, shelter or transportation to and from school.

He then admitted that he picked her up from the family member who was her primary caregiver.

She was subsequently removed from the care and custody of her primary carer by the Ministry of Social Affairs and placed with other relatives.

He was charged with taking indecent liberties with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

He was given a $15,000 bond on the first charge and a $1,500 bond on the second charge.
