TxDOT works to restore traffic signal outages in Houston area

There have been numerous traffic signal outages in the Houston area since Thursday evening’s storm.

Following Storm Derecho, TxDOT crews cleared storm debris and worked to restore normal operations, focusing on traffic signals impacted by the storm. About 125 out of 1,100 signals in Houston need repair. To facilitate the recovery process, teams from across the state were mobilized.

“Our crews are working diligently to restore our traffic signals and return to normal operations throughout the Houston District, including Harris, Montgomery, Fort Bend and Waller counties,” said Eliza Paul, district engineer for the Houston District. TxDOT Houston in a press release.

An emergency operations center was established at Houston TranStar to support storm recovery efforts by TxDOT.

Non-working traffic lights and storm debris pose a potential risk to motorists, so TxDOT is urging them to avoid unnecessary travel. When moving, drivers should slow down and give first responders the opportunity to work at intersections where traffic signals are not working.
