TN Home Ministry orders probe into real-life incident behind Manjummel Boys movie | Malayalam Movie News

The Tamil Nadu government has interfered in the narrative of the acclaimed Malayalam film Manjummel Boys. The 2024 survival thriller, which was inspired by true events from 18 years ago, depicted a harrowing incident faced by a group of friends during their visit to Kodaikanal. The film depicted their brave rescue mission after one of them fell into a crevasse in the Guna Caves.

In the real-life incident in 2006, Siju Davis, a member of the original group, heroically rescued his friend from a 120-foot-deep crevice. However, recent developments have once again brought this incident into the limelight as Tamil Nadu Home Minister P. Amudha directed the state’s Director General of Police to conduct a thorough investigation.

According to On Manorama, the reason for this investigation was a complaint by V Shiju Abraham, a Railway Advisory Committee member and Congress leader from Nilambur, Kerala. Allegations emerged regarding the conduct of the Kodaikanal police during the rescue operation, with allegations of assault against the group members who sought their help.

Meanwhile, the original members of the Manjummel Boys group are reportedly reluctant to take legal action. Siju Davis, a member of the original gang, acknowledged the veracity of the film’s depiction of police abuse when they sought help from Tamil Nadu authorities. He, however, mentioned that after the film’s release, they were met by the Tamil Nadu police and forest guards during a visit to the Guna Caves and apologized for the past incident.

On the other hand, ETimes rated Manjummel Boys 4.5 out of 5 stars and described the film as “an absolute marvel of visuals, absolutely good script, characterization, editing, acting and all the thrills”. Manjummel Boys received good reviews from the audience for Sushin Shyam’s great direction, performances and haunting music.

Manjummel Boys stars Sreenath Bhasi, Soubin Shahir, Deepak Parambol, Jr. Lal and many others.
