ALBANY, Ga. (Albany Herald) – Seven patients were transported from the scene Friday morning where an Albany Police Department cruiser and a Crisp County Schools bus collided at a downtown intersection.

“It appears the school bus, traveling north on (North) Jefferson Street, entered the intersection when a police officer alerted to a burglary in progress with his lights and sirens on,” said Patrolman Justin Lewis of the US state of Georgia.

The police SUV was traveling eastbound at the time of the collision, which occurred around 11 a.m. The police patrol car suffered significant damage to the front end.

A pedestrian who was standing on the sidewalk was struck by the school bus and pinned between the bus and a traffic light, the trooper said.

Three of the injured people transported were reportedly in critical condition. Students were among those hospitalized.
