Terminal manager suspended for fuel theft and missing documents; previously 69 tankers were “stolen”

The Namibia Petroleum Corporation (NAMCOR) has suspended its terminal manager at the National Oil Storage Facility in Walvis Bay.

Ellis Egumbo was suspended on Thursday in connection with the loss of fuel and business documents at the facility.

NAMCOR says the suspension of Ellis Egumbo is to allow for a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.

In February, NAMCOR identified a potential loss of over N$1 million after two truckloads of fuel with a total volume of approximately 80,000 litres were not delivered to major customers despite having left the fuel depot with the load.

The incident has been reported to the Walvis Bay police, who are investigating the case.

So far, four people have been arrested in connection with this theft.

After the theft was discovered, NAMCOR’s interim CEO Epson Uanguta said they were working around the clock to ensure that the perpetrators face the full consequences of their actions.

NAMCOR also confirmed media reports of 69 truckloads of fuel that never reached their destination despite being loaded and shipped from the warehouse.

The trucks transported a total of 2.7 million litres of fuel worth around N$80 million.

The cargo disappeared between December 2023 and January 2024.
