Winston-Salem police investigate shooting in Shaffner Park

Police are searching for a man after a shooting in a park in Winston-Salem.

Winston-Salem police officials said they responded to a call about a shooting in Shaffner Park, near Silas Creek Parkway, around noon Saturday.

After investigating, officers determined that a domestic violence incident had occurred between 31-year-old Don Kalvin Scipio and a woman. Police said the incident escalated and the woman allegedly shot Scipio in the leg in self-defense.

According to police, Scipio ran away. Officers said they tried to find Scipio, but he allegedly left the area. They believe he was wearing a tan t-shirt, black sweatpants and beige flip-flops.

It is not yet clear whether charges will be brought against either of them.

Police said this was an isolated incident and there was a heavy police presence in Shaffner Park during the investigation.
