Skate community gathers in Miami Beach after rollerblader sexually abused

MIAMI BEACH – More than a week after a woman was sexually assaulted while rollerblading on Miami Beach’s Beachwalk, the city’s skating community is planning a solidarity rally for Saturday.

A rally under the motto “Take Back the Boardwalk” is planned for 5 p.m. on the Beachwalk on 24th Street.

The woman was roller skating on the beach walk at around 1am on Tuesday, July 16, when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her, threw her to the ground and dragged her into the dunes before sexual harassment them. Surveillance images released by the police show the man at the time of the attack wearing a white outfit and with conspicuous tattoos on his arms.

Days later, the suspect, whom police identified as a 30-year-old, Keithy Hill Jr.was arrested by Hollywood police. Records show that he was convicted of sexual abuse of minors in Illinois and was on the state’s sex offender registry.

After the attack, police urged anyone leaving their home at night not to be alone or to let someone know where they are and to always be aware of their surroundings.
