BEIJING – Eight people died when a vehicle struck pedestrians in the central Chinese city of Changsha early Saturday, police said.

A statement from the Kaifu branch of the Changsha Public Security Bureau did not provide any reasons or further details, but said a 55-year-old male suspect had been arrested.

Five other people were injured, two seriously, in the incident, which occurred shortly after midnight, the statement said.
