Part of Bluebonnet closed due to hazardous materials incident | Crime/Police

Bluebonnet Boulevard in front of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in the 6000 block near Interstate 10 is temporarily closed while a possible hazardous materials incident is investigated, a St. George Fire Department spokesman said shortly before 3 p.m.

An “unknown substance” was discovered on the roadway and precautionary measures are being taken with the assistance of the Louisiana State Police, the spokesman said.

The investigation, which was first posted on the fire department’s Facebook page at about 2:30 a.m., was ongoing at the time amid heavy rain, he said.

Officers were trying to get drivers through as much as possible, he said.
