Shooting case with two dead referred to grand jury | Breaking News

The case in which two men were shot on May 15 is now being investigated by a grand jury.

In a press release from the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the case was referred to a grand jury on Thursday to further investigate the shooting.

This incident, which resulted in the deaths of 36-year-old David Doolin and 34-year-old Robert McCall, was investigated by the Grand Junction Police Department.

The incident occurred at 2893 North Avenue, where the two men were shot. The press release stated that “two intruders were shot” during the incident.

Neither law enforcement nor prosecutors have released further details about the shooting.

The nature of the shooting led to the decision to refer the case to a grand jury.

“Given the heightened public interest and severity of this incident, and to ensure that decisions are made based on the best possible information and input, District Attorney Dan Rubinstein and Grand Junction Police Chief Matt Smith felt it appropriate to request a grand jury to investigate this matter,” the press release said.

Doolin’s sister, Rose Hernandez, who lives in California, is frustrated by the lack of information released about the case.

Police have not confirmed the incident, but Hernandez said she was told that a security guard at the property was the person who shot her brother and McCall.

It was reported that one person was detained by law enforcement for questioning.

An earlier press release said the investigation was complicated.

“Due to the complexity and intricacy of this case, the Grand Junction Police Department is working with the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office to determine what further steps need to be taken to assess whether charges should be filed,” the previous press release said.

This press release also thanked the community for their patience and understanding.

“We understand that the loss of a human life affects the entire community and extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of Mr McCall and Mr Doolin.”

In the previous Daily Sentinel article, Hernandez said her brother had been struggling and was currently staying at a home near where he was shot. A few days before his murder, Doolin traveled back to the Sacramento area to spend Mother’s Day with his grandmother, who raised him.

District Attorney Dan Rubinstein also said in Friday’s press release that his office was authorized to announce the referral of the case to the grand jury, but nothing beyond that.

“Grand jury proceedings are confidential by law to ensure fairness and protect the integrity of the investigation,” the press release said.
